Did you know that antibiotics are killing our good gut bacteria? Do you know how much the doctors are prescribing this to patients for every little thing? Patients are looking for a quick fix and doctors are writing the scripts. I was given a round for every sinus infection, ear infection, sinus congestion, and cough (while most of these things will pass with some tlc and chicken soup). Three months after I stopped the last round of antibiotics a little over a year ago I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I had just gotten off a long use of antibiotics for an outer ear infection, due to the the doctors misdiagnosing me. All they needed to do was a simple test, yet they just prescribed all these different antibiotics mixed with other anti-inflammatory meds first and I was just desperate to feel better so I did what they said. This went on for about 3 months until one finally got it right. I actually did my own research and told him what I thought was going on and I was right. I went through three doctors and they all misdiagnosed me. This was very unsettling. Never once did they recommend a probiotic. How can they be so clueless about what this does to a persons body? My poor gut was completely out of balance.

Fast forward 3 months later and I had just gotten home from a long vacation down in the Florida Keys. I had no pain except for an urgency to go the bathroom and it not looking normal to me. However, I was in and out of the doctors office for three months with several tests being done and no diagnosis. I was told it might have been something I ate on vacation. Long story short, I ended up in the ER from a very low hemoglobin count as my body was in a crisis. I was not giving it the proper care as I truly did not know at the time what I should do besides eating as healthy as possible. I had a colonoscopy and they discovered some inflammation in my lower intestines.

Here I am, in the middle of summer and about to move into a new home sitting in the hospital, a mother of four kids that needed me at home. I am thinking to myself why me? What is this all about? I try to take good care of myself by eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise. I was even practicing meditation and yoga at the time. This to me was crazy and seemed to come out of no where. The diagnosis and prognosis did not resonate with me at all. The doctor would not answer any of my questions. He was cold and rude. He told me to take the medicine and just go back to eating and doing whatever I was and there are no restrictions as long as I take this medicine for the rest of my life. So out of pure exhaustion I took the medication the nurse gave me as much as I didn't want to, but felt I had to in order to get better fast. I was extremely tired and at the time I was in the middle of a job change and moving into a new home. I had no time to be sick! I am a very spiritual person and so my thoughts immediately went to what is God trying to teach me with this experience? What am I supposed to learn from this? I refused to allow negative thoughts to sink in. I told myself I will leave here and start a journey of researching, figuring this all out, and healing...and that is exactly what I did!!!

Here I am now it has been over a year since I started having these symptoms and I am so grateful for God, the Angels, my Spiritual Guides, and all my peeps watching over me up there! I have healed and although I have a lifetime of more healing, learning, and growing, I appreciate my body on such a deeper level that I will actually get emotional talking about my experience. Was it hard? Heck yeah! I had to eliminate most foods, coffee, and alcohol for about 2 months. Then I slowly introduced healthy organic foods back in very slowly. I journaled like crazy documenting everything to how I felt, everything I ate, and the changes I was seeing if any. I had some days when I would get down not seeing results soon enough and thinking I wasn't doing something right. I had doubts about the nutritionists I was seeing and had to go through a couple before I found a good fit. I had to do A LOT of meditation, prayer, and reflecting in my journal. I also did about eight sessions of acupuncture. I am not really sure if that contributed to my healing or not, but it was very relaxing. I got my hands on the best supplements, vitamins, and pre/probiotics. I also had to give myself the support others could not give me. Some people couldn't understand why I would choose to suffer through the healing journey rather than popping a pill for a quick fix and just deal with the side effects.

Well, let's see; In my research I found that many, many people have healed themselves from IBS, specifically Crohns and Colitis. I actually started to write down a list of names and once the list got so big I was pretty confident I was on the right track. I have read that it is becoming more and more common that people are suffering from IBS and it is all types of inflammation in the body from an imbalance. So than I thought how do I get my body back in balance, specifically healing my gut? I studied and studied until I felt good about my plan and then I studied some more. There was a lot of trial and error, but it was all SO WORTH IT! I love my body and what it can do. I am amazed at the miracle that it is. Our bodies are our best friend. They are constantly working to keep us healthy. They let us know when something does not sit well with us. It is our job to pay attention to what our bodies are telling us. I reached out to a lot of people I met on social media for help and even that became overwhelming as they all had different ways of healing and what worked for them won't necessarily work for me. I did take a little bit of information from everyone I communicated with and put it all into a plan that I thought would work for me.

I will still continue this journey for the rest of my life as I could never go back to settling for anything less than the best for my mind and body. No one knows you and your body better than you do. We need to question everything. We owe it to ourselves to research what the doctors are trying to give us. I weaned myself off the medication my doctor gave me as I only took it for a month and half and noticed awful side effects. I never planned on taking it for long anyways, but the side effects forced me to take action sooner. We must become our own health advocate. I felt very scared and alone at times, but that is where God comes in. We need to praise him at our highest, happiest moments with gratitude, yet still praise him at our lowest with our fears and insecurities. Let God take your fears and release them to Him and move on only thinking positive thoughts of healing. God wants us to heal. In my journal each day I wrote; I AM HEALING! I am grateful to GOD as I AM HEALING. I told myself I loved my strength and my courage to keep on moving forward each and every day despite what anyone says or does to discourage me.

I hope my story uplifts and inspires you to always know in your heart that healing IS possible. With God ANYTHING is possible. We must have faith in ourselves remembering that God is working through us. He is guiding our steps. He brings the right people, books, and information into our lives at the right time. Our world is God's world so if we continue to seek God and his healing ways, we WILL find them.

-Many blessing of light, love, and healing, Marcia
